Today was our first day of Concepts and Processes. We received our studio assignments, met classmates and teachers, and had our first lecture.

What I liked about this class so far was Professor Barrington's energy. He and I have similar styles, and I am looking forward to what he has planned.

What I did not like was being lectured at for hours. My ADHD plus my allergies plus not enough food or sleep caught up to me and it was torturous. I'm sure I looked haggard and miserable the last 2 hours of class.

“How does your art practice and/or teaching pedagogy relate to the art worlds of

contemporary youth?”

Something I have learned from my 3 years of teaching is that I initially started making art as a way to communicate/express how I was feeling because I didn't have a safe or consistent way to do that. As an adult, I have more tools, and I use the skills I've learned to emphasize my point and to connect with others.

With my pedagogy, a lot of my lessons have involved social-emotional learning, skill building, media exploration, and using personal history to create works.
