Last class! Last day of crits!

Today we saw work by AJ, Kristen, Warwick, Sheila, Eddie, Juan, and Justine.

AJ made paintings that questioned the perception of folk art, and we had a really nice conversation about what that looks like in the art world.

Kristen created some beautiful Adinkra symbols that she hand carved and printed, then played with the texture of the surfaces. Classic Kristen.

Warwick has been working on their first quilt, which none of us would have guessed based on the craftsmanship. Just incredible as always.

Sheila is creating a piece based on her photography to be translated into a mural, and we discussed her strengths (painterly qualities, saturation, mood).

Eddie has been using his favorite singers as a muse to get back into practicing figure drawing. I hope he starts going out in the world and drawing people more,

Juan has been working on an embroidery and a curtain that are deeply personal. It was very bold of him to share his trauma, but he was in a safe space.

Justine, like Juan, shared works that were personal and disturbing.

What a long day. Thank you, Barrington, for an interesting class. The last week was my favorite; having each of us teach a lesson was what I have been looking for throughout the entire grad program.
